Well, we had to call 911 today. Edwin was feeding Christian and his o2 line didn't quite reach where he was sitting, so I tugged on it and knocked over the humidifier on his O2 tank. I didn't realize it, but this let water into the nasal cannula. This, in turn, caused water to go into his nose and since Edwin was feeding him, he had no way to clear his throat. Well, his apnea monitor detected low heart rate and sounded an alarm. Edwin called me and I tried to stimulate him while he called 911. They got here very quickly, but he was fine by then. They looked him over, offered to take him to the hospital, which I said no to, and they left. That was very scary for us!
Went to Christians Pediatrition today. She discontinued Christian's ng tube. He's gaining weight nicely and doesn't need it anymore. This means we get to get rid of his feeding pump (we never used it anyways). We only used the feeding tube a couple of times.
Well, I finally realized today that I'm a Mommy. Christian had been without his oxygen for awhile, including 2 bottle feedings and a nap! I looked down at him and he was satting 100% (which is perfection) and I was so amazed at how well he was doing. I started crying and realized, at that time, that I was a mom. 5 months and 5 days after his birth, and it finally sunk in. I was just wondering how long it would take until I had that feeling, and it hits me just when I'm not expecting it! It's truely an an amazing feeling. Also, today is Edwin and my 2nd wedding anniversary!
Turned O2 machine off and haven't turned it on since!
Had doctors appointment yesterday. Christian is upto 8lb 6oz. The doctor turned him down to 22 calorie formula (from 26 calorie) which is awesome! Christian is doing awesome!
