April 3: We raised $1,027 for the March of Dimes walk! We had a great time, walking 6.2 miles! Christian rode the whole way. I made t-shirts and a lot of people asked about him!
April 5: Christian pulled him self up to his knees! He also VERY clearly said "mama"! I'm so proud and so happy! He still can't hear, though! Later, he pulled himself up to stand! Oh boy, we are in big trouble now!
April 13: Today was surgery day! We went in at 5:30. They called him back and checked vitals, asked lots of questions and made sure he wasn't sick. The doctor came in, asked if we had questions, then the audiologist came in. When it was time to go back, I gave Christian to the nurse, Judy. We all told him we loved him and gave him kisses. It's so hard leaving your baby to have major surgery. We then went to the waiting room to wait! It seemed like forever! We talked with Christine, the coordinator for Cochlear Implants. She told us what they were doing and made sure we didn't have any questions. Finally, the surgeon comes in and says it's over and everything went well! Once Christian wakes, we can go see him. Grandma and I go buy some balloons for him. Once he wakes, I snuggle with him and kiss him lots! His left eye is pretty swollen and his right eye is almost swollen shut! His implant is on the right side, just as they planned. His bandage wil come off on the 14th. They used butterfly stitches and glue to close it up. The nurse gave him some sugar water and he downed that very quickly! He only was a little fussy. We had to stay for 1 hour after he woke, coming home at 11:15am. They told us he'd be more comfortable at home. They said just to give him Tylenol if he's in pain. He'll have the implant turned on on May 25th! It's 6 weeks away!
April 20: Christian is finally sitting! He's been sitting, using his arms for support, for awhile. But, he can finally sit all by himself!
April 22: We had a post-op appointment. It went well. The doctor says it "looks good"!
April 27: Christian can now wave "bye bye". It's so cute!!
April 28: Christian is cruising the furniture! He started school at Desert Voices. They are hopefully going to help him learn to talk. They are "Aural" which means they only use speech. They are anti-sign. He'll start with one-on-one therapy, then will progress to a room with other kiddos as he can walk better! |
